I’m No Weirdo, I’m Using Cupidtino!

There is a saying us geeks have in the realm of dating: it’s not the size of the computer that matters; rather, it’s how you use it. So when a dating service makes a claim that they can create relationships, not by personality like those “other” people, but by “computer compatibility” (no pun intended), the idea seems somewhat far-fetched. Far-fetched or not, however, such a thing exists in the form of Cupidtino, a dating service for people like me, people who love their Apple’s as much as I do (no sexual innuendo intended). But just how good is Cupidtino? Actually, most people will be pleasantly surprised.

Now before everyone starts hopping onto the Cupidtino site, there is one important piece of information you need to know: No shoes, no shirt, no problem. However, no Mac, iPad, or iPhone? Well there you have the problem. To clarify, Cupidtino is for Mac or other Apple portable device users only, which is good because who really wants those crazy “unstable” Windows users anyway. Cupidtino is the Mac-like experience for the Mac-minded single crowed and it works better than one would think.

When you first pull up to the site, any Mac savvy person will notice the Aqua-like interface. Cupidtino is uncluttered and a dock at the bottom of the login page controls different aspects of your user experience. Oh, and it follows you throughout the site which is a nice bonus. You can search for other members, edit your profile, send messages, select your favorite iTunes stuff (notice that I’m my number one pick for music), and edit your account. The only thing you can’t do yet is select the gadgets that you own. I actually can’t wait for Gadgets to be enabled because I hear women really dig geeky men with lots of toys (I could be wrong, however).

A slight drawback is that you can’t view the people who’ve looked at your profile (for some of the female readers, that might not be a bad thing), but it would be nice to know who’s taken a passing glance at you. Also, searches can be refined down to a State but Cupidtino doesn’t go very far beyond that. People aren’t required to list a real city and some users just keep their state name as their city so even though they may be from Maryland for example, knowing where in Maryland they are is shot in the dark. However, these things will work themselves out as time and development progresses, I’m sure. You can search by Country, however, so international users aren’t limited to just the United States.

One item that is notably missing is an instant messaging system. You can send messages, poke somebody with the green “Mac Him” button, or arrange to meet someone at the nearest Apple store, but you can’t create instantaneous communication with someone (again, might not be a bad thing for the ladies). Not having instant messaging doesn’t really hamper Cupidtino, it just makes communication a bit more time consuming and tedious. In all, the messaging options that Cupidtino currently provides won’t disappoint most users.

I would stress that Cupidtino is in the early phases of development but the site is mostly complete. For any Mac users who are sick of dating the same bunch of “blue screeners,” I suggest that they try their hand at Cupidtino. It’s priced right at under $5 a month, it’s has a familiar Mac layout, and the users seem nice and genuine. There may be bigger dating sites, but none will give you the pick of the Apple crop like Cupidtino at such a great price. My advice, check it out. And while you’re on, make sure you check out my profile or send me a message. I am, after all, a paying customer. The user name is, of course, TujuMaster.
